Day Two
The second day went extremely well! Jeff, my Dad, Greg and I sat back and listened to the previous days recordings. We all felt they were excellent, and we should move forward with them. Being that my fourth string on my guitar was buzzing pretty bad, we decided to record harmony vocals till we could replace the string. My mom ran down to Allegro Music to purchase one for me.
Greg set up the room for vocal recording. This included one mic for vocals (The AKG Tube), two freestanding muslin-covered sound buffers, and music stand. We were having problems with "pops", meaning when I pronounced "p"s and other forceful consonants, there would be a popping sound from the expulsion of air. Greg had me sing just past the mic in order to fix that.
Each of the harmonies came out perfect. I had to record them once to get a feel for how the main voice went, and then I could adjust. I kept saying "Let's roll this puppy". Greg laughed because he'd never heard that terminology...so he'd say "Rollin' the puppy!", then someone else would bark "Woof!"
My mom came back with the new string and my Dad and Jeff got the instrument ready. I ended up recording three new songs from scratch, singing and playing guitar. I had a lot of fun messing around with different harmony vocals and picking the best one with the help of my "producers".
In the end, I finished 7 of the 12 songs doing all vocals and the rhythm guitar tracks. Tomorrow, I'll probably finish the others with the same. I'll probably put down some mandolin tracks as well.
Until tomorrow!
