Today I figured out what my problem was...java withdrawal! I hadn't been drinking coffee for fear that the caffeine may have an adverse effect on my voice, but today I couldn't take it anymore. I had a cup of Stepbridge Nuclear Brew, and then proceeded to buzz all around the studio like a crazy woman! hehe...
Well, needless to say, today went exceedingly well! I finished putting down the guitar and vocal tracks for the last song, Solamente Una Vez. It's kind of nice that I am able to "scratch" out possible harmonies and guitar riffs, then if I don't like them, just cut them out. I proposed adding a percussive instrument, like maracas or something for added interest. So, we dug into the percussion box and pulled out a...dangit, don't know what it is called, but it has metal beads around the head and you swish the beads with your hand against the metal head...getting a "shhh shhh shhh shhh" sound. Well, we tried it in Solamente Una Vez, but the rhythm was really slow and it was hilarious trying to fit it in. Everybody busted up laughing! Sooo, we ended up scrapping that idea!
I put down the lead guitar tracks today as well. We originally tried plugging my guitar in using it's pickup for the recording (it's an electric acoustic), but we got a lot of extra noise bleeding in. So, we ended up using the Tube, and got a real clear and natural sound.
At the end of our 4.5 hour session, I completed eight songs totally, and have four more that I just need to run mandolin tracks on. I'll be fine tuning those over the week so I can just run those things quickly on Saturday at the next session. After those are done, we move into Studio A to do the mixing on the SSL board for final production!
And we head down the home stretch!
